Causes of low libido

Normal libido and sexual function of the body are controlled by the endocrine system and, above all, the level of male sex hormone testosterone, produced by the testicles. It can cause sexual desire with chemicals such as dopamine, working as intermediaries between nerve cells and brain. Slight increase in the level of testosterone in the blood leads to the “explosion” of libido and male potency. The level of testosterone is regulated by the pituitary. Physical sexual function, such as erection and ejaculation, are regulated by the brain and peripheral nervous system, so problems related to the nervous system may directly affect the level of sexual desire, so that’s one of the causes of low libido.

Reduced libido may be associated with any illness, lowering the overall tone and mood, or side effects of drugs, including, and even after taking the medication (antipsychotics, tricyclic antidepressants, metildofa, reserpine, sulpiride, female hormones).

Quite often, lack of sexual desire or a sharp decrease sexual libido in men is associated with psychological causes. It may be chronic or permanent stress, anxiety, depression, hard work, family problems, feelings associated with failure on sexual front. Also, decreased libido may occur in men in the background too strict upbringing and cultural traditions laid in childhood. Prolonged abstinence from sexual activity also be the cause of low libido or its total absence.

The main factors determining libido and potency, are nutrition and physical activity.
